Why carpet on stairs still makes sense

Why carpet on stairs still makes sense

Stairs are where most home falls happen. Carpet gives a bit of grip, softens a slip, and takes the clatter out of a busy house. It is also the easiest stair surface to replace when it wears.

BRC Flooring wraps stairs in homes across Metro Detroit, from narrow bungalow staircases to wide open ones in newer builds.

Stairs are detail work

BRC Flooring / 02

Stairs are detail work

Carpet on a stair is not just a flat piece cut to length. Each tread needs pad, a tight wrap over the nose, and a clean tuck at the back. Corners on winders and landings need careful cutting and seaming. A loose stair carpet is a trip hazard, so we stretch and fasten everything firmly.

Stair work is one of the things our crew does most. Look at our stair installation photos to see the finish we aim for.

Choosing the carpet

BRC Flooring / 03

Choosing the carpet

Pick a dense, low pile. Deep plush crushes on the nose and looks tired quickly. A tight cut or low loop holds its shape under daily traffic, hides footprints, and cleans easily.

  • Choose a color that hides dirt, since stairs get tracked-in salt and grit
  • Lighter patterns hide lint and pet hair
  • Matching your upstairs carpet makes the whole house flow
  • Prefer a hard surface? Compare hardwood stairs or laminate stairs
Removing what is there

BRC Flooring / 04

Removing what is there

Older stairs often hide staples, nails, or paint-splattered treads. We pull everything, sand down any lumps, and fix loose treads before the new carpet goes on. If the stair structure itself needs repair, we will say so. See floor repair.

Most staircases are done in a few hours, usually alongside the rest of your carpet job.
